The Joseon Royal Tombs are the tombs of the kings and queens of the Joseon Dynasty and the emperors and empresses of the Korean Empire. They refer to 40 royal tombs, excluding four tombs which are Jereung (Queen Sinui, the royal consort of King Taejo), Hureung (2nd King Jeongjong and Queen Jeongan), tombs of the deposed Yeonsangun and Gwanghaegun of the 44 tombs in total. The Joseon Royal Tombs are the most complete form among the royal tombs that exist in Korea, and it is the only case in the world that the royal tombs of a single dynasty have been preserved in an intact form. So they were registered as a UNESCO World Heritage in June 2009. ‘Joseon Royal Tombs Festival’ is a cultural festival where anyone can experience and enjoy cultural heritage in an intimate way by rediscovering the ‘World Heritage-registered Joseon Royal Tombs’, where history is alive, as a cultural healing space filled with stories of comfort and inspiration. Through the ‘Joseon Royal Tombs Festival’ to promote the value of the Joseon Royal Tombs and develop new traditional cultural tourism resources, you can meet various performances, tours, and experiential programs to relax.
